Step One: Ask For Help

Is it an age thing? When you realize that food isn’t exciting. When asked what you want to eat, you draw a blank because nothing sounds appetizing. Life is suddenly just a constant pattern of going through the motions, but the motions keep changing. You have to make so many decisions and suddenly the decision of where you want to eat is so hard. Food sounds gross because it’s just that thing you’re supposed to interact with 3 times a day and now for my 20,000th meal I’m out of ideas—out of yearning for food but dealing with a headache caused by an internal annoyance at life. But what do we do. We suck it up. We eat something and move on. Tomorrow will come, and we just take life a day at a time. Get it done. Maybe one day it won’t be like this.

Honestly if I didn’t believe in an omnipotent God who loved me, I don’t think I’d have the strength to pull through and continue through this crazy path. It’s overwhelming if you try to do it on your own. It’s in moments like these where you have to realize your incompetence and admit your need for help. Movements like these where you realize that this world will never satisfy and that us as humans were created for a greater purpose than achieving whatever wealth this world offers. That goals relationship, infinite supply of money, or steady and satisfying career are never going to fully satisfy that yearning that we have for a perfect relationship. There is only one person who can satisfy our desire but we can’t get there on our own. We have to admit defeat and ask for help. We have to trust in the what we don’t understand. Once we run out of human possibilities to explain our existence, we have to recognize the possibility of the seeming impossible. Once the impossible become possible, only then can we begin to enjoy life.

We suddenly have a reason for making it through the day. That doesn’t mean that Christ is some magical genie that provides the cure for life’s imminent pains, but that he gives us something better. We become citizens of a perfect nation under a perfect ruler. Right now we are simply travelers in a broken world. We have this knowledge of a better world and we want to share this with those around us. We probably look crazy talking about magical impossibilities, but you have to realize that your imagination is limited by your humanity. And boy let me tell you that you need to open your eyes and look beyond the human possible and see the infinity beyond. I’m not trying to sound degrading because I was once like you. I looked at the world through blinders, but once you look around you’ll realize that you aren’t happy. Nothing makes sense. There is no human explanation for why we’re here. So in order to make sense of all of this, you have to delve into the impossible realms of something greater than you or I. You have to recognize that there is no human reasoning to explain how we are living and breathing in the middle of a beautiful solar system that somehow keeps us alive.
