God First

I’m a big fan of the little moments. I tend to flit between the two extremes of being in complete and broken awe of how magnificent and glorious our God is and in the depths of despair over how broken this world is. I’ve prayed that God would break my heart over what breaks His and He has done that again and again. That prayer is not one I would recommend you to make lightly as prayer is a powerful thing that God does answer. That being said, you are equipped through Christ and He does not give you anything beyond what you can handle by His strength. In saying that, I fully do recommend you pray that prayer as it draws you outside of yourself and your worries pale in comparison to the state of this world.

This world is in such a broken and hopeless state of absolute despair as it is racing full speed towards the cliff of eternal damnation. If you ask Him to show you the world as He sees it you will continually be brought to your knees under the overpowering burden of the weight of sinful human nature. But you also will look at the fresh steaming cup of tea in your hand on a Sunday morning and think about the majesties of the God who invented that cup of tea.

You think of the potter who formed us in our mother’s wombs.

You think of the transformation and restoration of making us new from the inside out. There is no sense in putting new bubbling wine in old vessels that would break under the transformation of the new wine. We are made anew in our salvation. In the now and the not yet, we are new creatures.

The steaming cup of tea reminds me of the powers in this world. How steam has been used overtime and how powerful water and steam can be.

It reminds me of a cool breeze on a sunny day and how Christ is like a warm and constant breeze in our lives. That breeze reminds me of His promised peace to those who make their requests known to God.

The tea I spilled all over my papers as I sat down in the corner of my room reminds me of His blood that covers all of our imperfections and our sinful nature. How He seeps into the depths of our souls as the tea seeped into my beautiful carpet. He stains us with His blood and His blood that covers us cannot be removed.

My mind drifts to washing the cup later and I am reminded of how He has washed me by his blood. I am reminded of how He turned water into wine and He can use me for His glory and my good.

I encourage you to each day look at something small and see God’s character, His promises, your brokenness, and your salvation through this thing or moment. This little habit of looking for God in all things makes life more beautiful as you train your mind to see God first and give thanks to Him in the good, the bad, and the little mundane.
